Its normal to see lines of book shelves at home. Disadvantage is that we most often read a romance novel or such only once and then discard them in the shelf for dust to settle on. For practical reasons for a book lover, a library card is a must. Bonn boasts a number of well stocked libraries located all over the area.

For the book lovers, you can just pop in and read on their wide selection of books, from Deutsch, English and even other Languages. Choices can be from books, to dvd's, audio cd's, Wii games, Playstation games, blu ray discs, game boards and even use of internet.
If you prefer to take home your pick, either pay a small amount for that or sign up and register. They also have their price list for registration. I have paid the yearly membership costing 30€ enabling me to borrow any number of selection (either book, cd, dvd, gameboards or audio cd etc).
Call the nearest Bibliothek (Library) near you to determine their opening hours. Most are open Monday, Wednesday to Saturday. Some have lunch break but the Zentralbibliothek doesn't have one.
Enjoy reading!
